My cousin's selling a 1995 Nissan Altima GLE with 168,000 miles for $1,500.00. She's had the car for 5 years and I'm quite sure she's maintained it well...i.e oil changes and such...
She says:
1. The car leaks oil, but isn't a problem with regular oil changes
AND
2.The check engine light is on, but nothing's wrong with the engine. They're just going to charge her $60 to turn it off.
I wanted to know if this is a good deal or not...what should I do? Are these good cars?Should I buy a1995 Nissan Altima GLE; 168,000 mi; oil leak and the Engine light is on...for $1,500.00????
that engine light has to be checked. it wont pass the emissions, the oil leak might have a crack block, if its not, it can probably be an easy fix.Should I buy a1995 Nissan Altima GLE; 168,000 mi; oil leak and the Engine light is on...for $1,500.00????
No,No
I think you could do better.
if you want it..get it
if the oil leak isnt a problem then ignore that
and to turn off most check engine lights..disconnect the batttery for a few minutes and reconnect it..generally fixes it
Don't buy it. If oil is leaking, it could be a costly repair. A new long block engine would be about $3,500.
If the engine light is on, something is wrong.
No! walk away from it, a better deal is waiting for you if you have a little patience. Buy a car like that if you know how to fix it, or your $1500 car may turn out to be an expensive car after all.
