The curious thing is that people buying hybrids want their car to look unusual. It announces very loudly that they are saving the planet. Honda's Civic hybrid is apparently being discontinued due to poor sales. Since the mileage numbers are not that much different from the Prius, you might wonder why. Well, one of the reasons consumers give for not buying is that the only way anyone knows that it's a hybrid is by reading the small logo on the back - it just doesn't look different.
Our selection of a personal vehicle is seldom a logical decision, it's a matter of making a statement. If logic were applied, would anyone buy an H2? If logic were applied, would it matter if a 45 mpg hybrid looked like its non-hybrid sibling? It's all in the image we want to project.Did the oil companies pay toyota to make the prius ugly *** hell so nobody would buy it??so they can make $$$$
No.
The Prius is ugly for aerodynamic reasons and because people who would buy a supposedly ultra high milage hybrid that goes 0-60 in over 10 seconds are probably not too concerned with it looking sporty.
Second, Toyota has crazy deep pockets, its not likely you could influence them with a bribe even if you wanted to.
Drive the Prius. It will change your mind. You don't have a car key, you just keep a sensor in your pocket. Approach the door, and the sensor allows you to open the door. Sit down in the driver's seat, and still.. no key to start it... you just push the power button. No gears for a transmission to shift through.. talk to your GPS navigation through your steering wheel. Get constant ';system'; updates from a heads up display that shows you exactly how many MPG your getting - sometimes it reads 99.99 MPG. Also, you can lay down the back seats and have a hatchback like storage vehicle good for pets or moving things around. The Prius could be the ugliest car on the face of the Earth, but I'd never kick it out of my garage!
Possibly, but it's more likely that toyota did so on their own. Have you noticed that pretty much all hybrids are pretty ugly?
The car companies are just as interested in continuing to produce ICE vehicles for the long term maintenance and replacement of parts as the oil companies are.
Just take a look at the Tesla Roadster.
Probably not. There are many people out there with Prius's that are more concerned with economical savings rather than looks. I own a Toyota Hybrid vehicle and laugh at everyone who went out and bought themselves a gas guzzling Hummer because everyone else was buying one..
I doubt it. But it sure is an amusing thought.
Conveinient, economical cars sure have a way of being butt-ugly.
Notable Examples:
AMC Pacer
Chevy Sprint
Ford Fiesta
Dodge Omni
Toyota Echo
The prius is selling just fine.
I used to think they were ugly, but then a friend bought one and I changed my mind. The insides are super nice for the money
Doctor J, he meant the oil companies would make money fyi.
I think the Honda civic hybrid looks nice.
Then why is the Prius the best known and most bought Hybrid ?
yea its a conspiracy.
Uh ... how does Toyota ';make $$$$'; if no one buys it? Huh?
lol
