If you cannot find a spec manual on the vehicle maybe you should have the engine checked out and go to a 10/30 synthetic oil. synthetic is the way to go.
Perhaps the previous owner might have a suggestion.

Or, if you must talk to the French, contact Peugeot.
Those Peugeot/Citroen TU engines are supposed to be run on 10W40, 15W40 or 15W50. Personally, I'd go for the 15W40. Texaco do their Havoline brand in that weight, and it's probably one of the cheapest brand-name oils you can get. Most Asda stores sell it in their car/diy section.

To be honest, any oil you can buy in your local Halfords that's the right weight will be just fine. I'd avoid really cheap no-name stuff, though the Carlube brand is supposed to be very reasonable for it's price.

Change your coolant mix as well - drain it all and put in fresh water/antifreeze if you can't be sure when it was last done.
5W/30
Look in the glove box for the manual which should say, or ask at the parts store, or even ask the person or dealer you bought it from.
