Bought a 2007 Altima, it's ready for it's first oil change and was wondering if I can switch to synthetic?

Is there break in oil or some special oil put in by the factory to help break in during the first few thousand miles? Should I do my 1st change with regular oil and then switch to synthetic on my 6000 mi change?Bought a 2007 Altima, it's ready for it's first oil change and was wondering if I can switch to synthetic?
You can switch to synthetic oil but once you switch you shouldnt go back to regular oil. So be prepared to pay around $40.00 for an oil change from now on!

Despite the number of benefits over mined oil (the stuff they pump out of the ground), Americans still haven't fully embraced this advanced technology.

Synthetic oil is produced in a lab, which means the only stuff in it is what they put in it. Despite the high-tech refining of crude oil, there are still contaminants in the oil that can build up and eventually damage an engine. Changing your oil and filter removes any loose particles that form, but often the build-up occurs in an isolated area of your engine, usually where it gets really, really hot. This build up can clog oil passages and valves, which can eventually lead to reduced engine life.

There are also ecological benefits to using synthetic oil. Its viscosity stays higher than mined oil at high temperatures, enough to even affect your gas mileage. Since it breaks down much more slowly than petroleum-based oil, you can greatly extend the time between oil changes.Bought a 2007 Altima, it's ready for it's first oil change and was wondering if I can switch to synthetic?
But you CAN switch back to regular oil after you've used synthetic. They can also be mixed, that is what a synthetic blend is. very informative link, 10 Myths about Synthetic Oil: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=1463115%26amp;page=articlespr/articlemyths Report Abuse

Unless the owner's manual says not to, it will be fine. I did it with my Envoy and it is an 04 and no problems yet. 85000 miles later
1st off, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair...with that being said...

you can switch from conventional oil to full synthetic to a synthetic blend at any given time and it will not harm your car although most people will tell you that you want to keep your oil the same throughout the life of your car, it isn't true.

Different grades of oil, synthetic, synthetic blend, high mileage, etc., have different additives, chemicals, or engineering that will all do the same thing, lubricate your engine parts. It's just a matter of how much you want to spend and how often you keep your oil changed.

Good luck and hope this helps
No problem at all. Synthetic oils don麓t get burned or diluted like mineral oils do.

Most likely if u add synthetic oil, you wont have to change oil again, just keep adding whenever the level is low
