distillation ~glasswareIs there anywhere I can buy the necessary tools to use for steam distillation (for extraction of essential oil
yes, but they are expensive 250-higher. just google it. steam distilling is hard. you really need allot of flowers are whatever. also sometimes using water doesn't work being that particular plant needs a hotter temp to extract. just google it you'll find what your looking for.
its called a steam distiller, with a 2 liter bio flask. you need a pump and other glass flasks that come in a kit. and a burnerIs there anywhere I can buy the necessary tools to use for steam distillation (for extraction of essential oil
Steam distillation can be done at home, but be aware that you are going to get very little essential oil and a lot of hydrosol. Home stills are available for purchase, but if you are handy and so inclined...you can build your own. The idea is that plant material and water are boiled, the steam is captured and condensed and allowed to collect in another vessel. A large pot with a lid that fits well so that the steam is only allowed to escape through a hole that is fitted with tubing that travels through a cold water bath or ice. (This is where the steam condenses to fluid) This 'water' is collected in a vessel, mostly hydrosol with the essential oil floating on the top.
CH Imports, Stove Stills and Extractor in Quebec should be still offering home distillation equipmenet for sale.
It is not worth your time or effort.
It often takes anwhere from 200 poounds to 1 1/2 tons (3000 pounds) of the herbs to get 1 fluid ounce of pure essential oil.
When you factor in the leagal headaches, and the cost of the herbs, it is acually cheaper to buy the essential oils in the first place.
