Looking at buying 1991 lincoln Town car but they say it needs a oil pump?

anyone know what's involved in changing the oil pump on a 1991 Lincoln towncar with 4.6LLooking at buying 1991 lincoln Town car but they say it needs a oil pump?
On a '91 Town Car equipped with the 4.6L SOHC V8, the oil pump is driven directly by the crankshaft. On this particular engine, you will need to remove both valve covers, the timing chain cover, BOTH timing chains and their respective guides in order to gain access to the oil pump. Although it may be necessary to loosen the front bolts on the oil pan, it may not be necessary to remove it altogether. This necessary to gain access to the two bolts that secure the oil pickup to the pump. But just the above mentioned steps are going to be a labour intensive task in itself that involves retiming the engine when reassembling it. The main question is WHY it needs an oil pump. If the engine has been operating with prolonged low oil pressure, it is quite likely all the bearings would have significant wear, which would mandate a complete rebuild. The question you need to ask yourself is if it's worth it for a 17 year old vehicle. Hope this helps.Looking at buying 1991 lincoln Town car but they say it needs a oil pump?
The oil pump is located inside the oil pan. You will need to remove the oil pan to get to it. This might be hard if there is anything in the way of the oil pan. Im not sure about a towncar, but on a lot of bigger cars like that, it is pretty easy to do if you just jack up the front and pull the oil pan off. If you cant get to the oil pan, you will probobly have to pull the engine out to get to it.
You have to be careful. If the car was driven even a little bit with a bad oil pump, the engine could be bad. Without an oil pump, your piston rings and engine bearings could be bad. That means a total rebuild. If not, an oil pump is not that bad to change. It will take a couple of hours and about $150 to fix. It is up under the oil pan. you have to drop the oil pan to change it. make sure you have a new oil pan gasket, high temp sealant, new oil filter (because you should change it) and five quarts of oil. Five quarts is normal for most motors. Good luck!
do you know were it is LOL
probably just the screen it needs, oil pump is not in the oil pan
