sure if you dont mind blowing out the gasket going down the road in 3 thousand miles.
If you HONESTLY cannot afford pre cut gaskets, get some gasket media and cut them yourself.
If you HONESTLY cannot afford gasket media, get a cardboard box and reinforce the ';form-a-gasket'; blue stuff with a cardboard core.
But JUST the blue stuff wont do. not for any length of time anyway. The make a gasket the stuff you buy in a tube can you use that for an oil pan or trans???
yeah,to hold the GASKET in place during re-assembly.Just a dab will do ya.The make a gasket the stuff you buy in a tube can you use that for an oil pan or trans???
Yes. As a matter of fact most mfg of cars are using this ';form a gasket'; from a tube rather than a real gasket for many oil pans and covers and such. Just make sure its oxygen sensor safe as some products will produce a fume to bias or hurt oxygen sensors. This will be noted on the package.
better touse a gasket. a little silicone helpsthe seal
Permatex is the standard...I would recommend the non-hardening type...Coat both sides of the gasket...In a pinch, this stuff can be used by itself - just long enough to get a replacement gasket...And again, coat both sides and make sure the flanges are clean.
You can get away with it 1 in 500 times, but only for a limited time. Don't risk it, just buy a gasket. Clean the old one off really well too.
no, just use a regular gasket as that stuff can blow out in a few thousand miles.
Using a gasket is always the preferred method. to help hold it in place, a bit of gasket adhesive can be used. Excessive amounts of adhesive can protrude into the pan area, come free and work its way through the internal mechanism. If this is done in an automatic transmission the results can be very detrimeantal. If done in an oil pan, a blocked oil passage could result. A gasket is designed to take up the differences between two machined surfaces. A touch of adhesive is only ment as a holding device. Be careful.
If you're going to use INSTEAD of a gasket, use the form-a gasket in the ';cheese whiz'; can for anything you can't find a gasket to-Usually cheaper to just get the gasket. Never use other than a gasket for trans- ANY silicone-gasket maker will break down over time, being in contact with trans. fluid, ruining your tranny.
