I've never tried it myself, but yes, you can use cooking oil. It may smell and produce smoke depending on the type, but will burn. Olive oil is a cleaner, order-free alternative.I bought an antique mini oil lamp and i want to use cooking oil?
Ancient oil lamps burned vegetable oils. You know Alladins Lamp. Next was probably whale oil then coal oil until petroleum became more common. Will probably smoke a little but not so much if you keep the wick short. Will probably be a little harder to light.
cooking oil wont work for the mini lamp try soaking it with mustard oil or kerosene oil.
