What brand and type and power level of pressure washer should I buy to clean OIL Stains off the driveway?
Would I need electric or gas powered? I got some tough stains on my driveway street area's that I want to clean up. My car USED to leak oil and I hate the oil stains onb the ground...They are kind of OLD stains and I tried all types of chemicals already to clean them but they didn't completely work. I want to try a pressure washer / cleaner now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance! What brand and type and power level of pressure washer should I buy to clean OIL Stains off the driveway?
Water will not take off oil. Period. The two do not mix. Really soapy water(like that in a pail of hot water combined with either or a mixture of laundry soap, dish soap and bar soap and a scrub brush(where you get down on your hands and knees and scrub the stain is about the easiest to get a hold of and do right today if you wanna. Soap (which is partly water dissoluble fat) will work in lifting the oil from the pavement and once in solution you can wash it away with water. That is what lifts will lift. The black that remains(if there is any) is the soot(same as what is in a chimney from a fireplace) =very fine charcoal. which sits in the microcracks between the sand and cement(if it is a cement driveway) It does not dissolve or blow away.
Another chemical for removing grease is TSP (paint store) It will take paint off hardened brushes so can be made really strong..
Personally, I would go with the soap solution first. Just because there is no financial loss(investment in a pressure washer that does not do it anyways.)
If it is an home asphalt driveway do not use pressurewasher(and it does not matter if the driveway is fresh or 10 years old). expecially if the pressure can be 250psi plus. It will dig holes in the asphalt causing more damage than it is worth.
Being that it is on the street, it belongs to the city or department of highways. The next time they pave the road, they will repave over that section. with new tar. They don't do spot repair(unless there is a big pothole there) and even then they do pothole repair and leave it till the street is slated for repaving as they do an entire street or two or three..What brand and type and power level of pressure washer should I buy to clean OIL Stains off the driveway?
the bad thing about used motor oil is it will seep into the pours of concrete no amount of washing will get the stains out they make a concrete stain you can get at most any hardware store. use dawn dish washing soap (cuts grease and oil very good) scrub with a stiff brush rinse with a hose this will remove quite a lot then stain even with a high pressure washer you will not be able to get all the oil from the poures in the concrete
