It's a million times cheaper just to get it through the free market. Kind of like buying your fish at the market for $7 a pound vs buying a boat and fishing so you get the same fish at $300 a pound.

I got bad news for you. your the stupid one. We didn't invade for Saddam's oil, we invaded because we thought he would eventually threaten the oil supply in the middle East. Then the oil wouldn't be so relatively cheap anymore. Whether that justified the invasion is a whole different argument.

we could have just taken the oil, the rules of war do allow for the taking of spoils and forraging yet our army uses saudi fuel. so its not war for oil, but I would not have a problem with that.

Now, 1.25 million barrels leave Iraq DAILY, and Bush is is still begging for cash, Iraq is NOT getting rebuilt and the price of gas is going up, up, up.





So where is the money for all this oil going?

Actually, there was a U.N. embargo. Iraq was only allowed to sell a very limited supply of oil in return for food (hence the oil-for-food scandal involving companies from all over the world, including the U.S.).





Had we attempted to lift the embargo, it would have implied that the U.S. was (once again) supporting Saddam, and we didn't want that.





No - the only way to open Iraq's oil supply to outside corporations was to remove Saddam from power. This opening would (theoretically) have the added benefit of diluting OPEC's power.
The key word in your question is ';buy'; why should we buy, when we can own.
I don't think we invaded for oil, but we're still there because of it. If Iraq didn't have oil, we would have pulled out a LONG time ago.





We didn't want to buy it from Saddam because he snubbed his nose at us. Look at Cuba, we've made friends with North Vietnam, Japan, Germany, Italy and to some degree North Korea who all killed many of our soldiers, but NOT Cuba who never fired a shot at us. And why? Simply because Castro snubs his nose at us, we can't have that!

Why invade Iraq for oil? Who benefited the most from the Iraq invasion? The oil companies who are seeing multi billion dollar a quarter profits. Guess what? Bush comes from a family who got most of their money from oil.





More importantly notice the oil companies did not have to pay for the war. Its more like encouraging a fight between two fishermen and turning around and swiping their catch while they are fighting.

Many liberals are only capable of thinking in simple terms. Explaining everything Bush does in terms of oil is a simple thought and at their level of thought.
I'll give you one answer. Sadaam wanted to start trading oil in Euro dollars. Our economy would've collapsed. I've read more than one article on it. Iran's leader is thinking of doing the same thing. Plus, as was already stated. Why buy when you can own it? You must be one of those who think that oil companies and are government are not dirty corrupt bastards. Just thinking about them makes me wanna jump in the shower.
