What is the difference between expensive and cheap olive oil and is it worth buying the expensive stuff?

I've seen some bottles that cost upwards of 50 dollars while the same quantity is sold for more like 10 dollars of another brand. I assume the difference is in the quality of olives, facilities, etc. But is it really worth that price? What is the difference between expensive and cheap olive oil and is it worth buying the expensive stuff?
Olive oils are like wine, the better ones always cost more.

Cheap olive oil is fine for cooking with. If you are serving a dish of olive oil with a few herbs to dip bread in as an appetizer I would recommend a better quality olive oil. The good ones are not as thick, taste fruity and clean, and are just overall nicer.

The actually difference is which pressing (1st 2nd 3rd etc, and the type of pressing, cold etc) and the quality/type of olives used.

is it worth the price? I would have to say it depends on what you want to do with it.What is the difference between expensive and cheap olive oil and is it worth buying the expensive stuff?
Well, I have totally a different perspective on this one. My family ships olive oil from Greece to our home. I think a good quality olive oil is first press. I see and taste the flavour difference in our olive oil, and store bought. When I buy store bought, I look for an olive green colour in the oil. Also, it is a good sign if they have it in a tinted glass, because light does affect the oil.

The greener the oil, the more flavour it has, and I find the ';extra virgin olive oil, or the ';extra, extra virgin olive oil'; just a hype. Just another $$$$ maker.

Hope this helps
If they're both virgin olive oil they're most likely both the same. Just different companies. You want to get the ';Extra virgin olive oil';. It's the BEST FRESH olive oil you can get. But it's up to you if you want to get the expensive kind. Personally, I would go with the no-name-brand. If you get the big company stuff, you pretty much paying for the logo.
the worth of olive oil depends on the precentage of pure olive oil, and if it is virgin or not (not in sex form).

it also depends on the quality, the manifactor, the seller, and the producer.

:]
i really don't see the difference you know they just think that their big brand name will have to cost and i don't think there are any generic olives i mean do you see my point there is just a price for 1st 2cond and trird class people right
Most of the more expensive olive oils are cold pressed giving that oil much better quality and flavor.
